The Commando Memorial is just outside the village of Spean Bridge, in Lochaber. The memorial was unveiled in 1952 and dedicated to the British Commando forces raised during the Second World War. The site is used for memorial services, and includes a garden of remembrance and a place for relatives to scatter the ashes of loved ones. The three Commandos look south, towards Ben Nevis and some of the the striking but unforgiving landscapes they trained on. #commandos #scotlandtravel #scotlandexplore

The next time your visiting the Commando Memorial near Spean Bridge just north of Fort William, try and make time for this wee detour. You'll find a gate on the left, near the exit from the car park, taking you into a field with a path. Across the field, into the woods and before long, you're onto the Old Military Road. Keep walking and you can't miss the ruins of Highbridge, one of my favourite spots with a perilous pillar clinging onto the rock and an equally dramatic story. Just don't copy th
