The bark Wanderer met its fate in August 1924 shortly after departing New Bedford on a whaling voyage. Within a day of sailing, the vessel encountered severe weather and was driven onto the rocky shoreline off Cuttyhunk Island. Although the ship was lost and quickly broken up by the storm, all members of the crew were able to abandon her safely. In the aftermath, portions of Wanderer’s timbers and fittings were salvaged and fashioned into keepsakes, preserving physical traces of the vessel. The
