What is the Flu? Flu is a respiratory illness spread by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. Flu can make people a little sick or very sick.

Welcome to the new on-line version of the Maryland Resident Influenza Tracking Survey (MRITS). MRITS is a system designed to measure influenza-like illness (ILI) in Maryland based on illness reported directly by residents each week.

Where Can I Get a Flu Shot? At the University of Maryland Medical System, many of our hospitals offer free community flu shot clinics and/or partner with local organizations to help promote and support additional community flu vaccination efforts. Visit the hospital sites below to see upcoming flu clinics in your community.

Identify Flu Symptoms Early. Flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Some people may also have vomiting and diarrhea. People may be infected with the flu and have respiratory symptoms without a fever.
