Tesla's profits fell 16% over a three-month period ending in June that overlapped with the end of chief executive Elon Musk's tenure in the White House and his ensuing public clash with President Donald Trump, an earnings release on Wednesday showed.

Tesla on Wednesday reported a drop in its profit during the second quarter, as the electric vehicle maker continues to struggle despite CEO Elon Musk's pivot back to focusing on his companies after his controversial role leading the Trump administration's government cost cutting efforts.

Tesla’s financial position is getting worse, as the fallout continues from CEO Elon Musk’s politics. The electric automaker reported Wednesday that both revenue and profits fell in the second quarter of the year compared to a year earlier.
