A man impersonating a police officer fatally shot a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband early Saturday and, in a separate shooting, wounded a second lawmaker and his wife in what Gov. Tim Walz said was an act of “targeted political violence.

Authorities are searching for Vance Boelter in connection with the shootings of Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and state Sen. John Hoffman.

Hortman, a Democrat, and her husband were shot at their home in Brooklyn Park, a city north of Minneapolis, on Saturday morning by a man dressed as a police officer, authorities said. Police are still searching for the suspect, named by the FBI as 57-year-old Vance Boelter, who escaped following a shootout with officers.
