Donald Trump warned on Sunday that any country aligning with what he described as the “anti-American” policies of the Brics bloc would face an additional 10 per cent tariff. “There will be no exceptions to this policy,” the US president declared on his Truth Social platform without specifying any nation or policy.

The BRICS bloc has criticized rising tariffs and attacks on Iran in its latest summit declaration. Meeting in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, the group also condemned NATO’s increased military spending and expressed concerns about global trade disruptions caused by tariffs.

The group of emerging economies—including Brazil, Russia, India and China—has long sought to present itself as a multilateral counterweight to a U.S.-dominated world order.
