Intel stock dropped 4% soon after Trump's post. Shares entered Thursday up less than 2% this year. Tan assumed the CEO role at the struggling chipmaker in March. Late last month, it was reported that Intel was looking to spin off its networking unit as it moves to shed assets under Tan.

President Donald Trump urged the chief executive officer of Intel Corp. to resign over what he called conflicts of interest, injecting fresh turmoil at a company already struggling to stem losses and eke out relevance in the artificial intelligence age.

Intel’s stock is falling as Trump’s comments open the door for potentially more leadership drama at the chip giant.
