The battle over the future of AI-generated content escalated on Wednesday as two Hollywood titans sued a fast-growing AI start-up for copyright infringement.
"Piracy is piracy, and the fact that it's done by an AI company does not make it any less infringing," said Disney general counsel Horacio Gutierrez in a statement. The studios claim Midjourney downloaded copyrighted content from the Internet using "bots, scrapers, streamrippers, video downloaders, and web crawlers" to train its AI model.
A closely watched class and collective action against the HR management services company Workday, Inc. reached a new milestone recently, when the Northern District of California conditionally certified Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) claims on behalf of a sprawling collective believed to include millions of job applicants.
