Workers at certain Safeway and Albertsons locations will begin striking on Sunday, in protest of what workers say are unfair labor practices, short-staffed stores, and frozen wages.

Additionally, on Monday night and Tuesday morning, Safeway and Albertsons workers in Fort Collins, Greeley, Longmont, Loveland and Colorado Springs have all voted over 95% to authorize a strike.

COLORADO (KRDO) -- Workers at dozens of Colorado Safeway and Albertsons stores ended their strike Saturday, July 5, after striking a tentative new labor deal with the grocery chain's parent company.

Albertsons is facing labor strife in at least four other states. And in Indianapolis, UFCW Local 700 authorized a strike on May 31 when it voted down a four-year contract with Kroger.

“Our union grocery store members at Safeway and Albertsons have now voted to authorize a (unfair labor practices) strike,” UFCW Local 7 President Kim Cordova said in a prepared statement.
