The TEA told the state it could take over managing the school district or close one school that has failed five consecutive years.

Complicating matters is that the state rating comes two years delayed because of lawsuits — and Fort Worth officials already closed the failing campus.

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath notified officials in the Fort Worth Independent School District that the district is at risk of a state takeover after a single campus received five consecutive failure ratings.
