The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's vaccine advisory committee wrapped up the first day of its meeting since Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dismissed the entire panel and appointed his own hand-selected members.

A group of outside advisers to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted 5-2 to recommend use of a new shot that can protect babies from respiratory syncytial virus, adding an additional tool against the most common cause of hospitalization in infants.

The eight new ACIP members met for the first time June 25 after Kennedy fired all 17 original members of the committee June 9.
