Some school districts have announced closures for Monday and Tuesday due to a massive snowstorm that started Sunday. The National Weather Service predicts that most of the state will end up with 20 inches to 2 feet of snow by the time the snowstorm has finished on Monday.
Eastern Massachusetts, including Boston and Lawrence, could see up to 3 to 4 more inches of snow, the weather service said. Worcester, Provincetown, and Fitchburg could see 2 to 3 inches, Greenfield could see 2 inches, and Hyannis, Springfield, Pittsfield, and Great Barrington could see 1 to 2 inches, NWS said.
Marblehead's Select Board declared an emergency, which grants the town permission to dump snow into the harbor.
Healey said she has activated the State Emergency Operations Center and urged the public to stay indoors this weekend.
The state was the first in the country to use a Native American name.
