CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey? With preseason camp over and the 2025 opener closing quickly, Notre Dame football needs to move forward with one or the other.

With two weeks until Notre Dame opens its season against No. 10 Miami (Florida), the Irish are still without a starting quarterback.

CJ Carr, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound freshman from Saline, Michigan, arrives as one of the most decorated recruits in recent Notre Dame history. A four-star signal-caller, he ranked among the top quarterbacks nationally in 2024 and enrolled early to get a head start.

Notre Dame football will need some of their offensive players to step up this fall, and our staff makes their best guess at who they are.

+ To this point, there has not been much separation between Carr and Minchey. Sources have given Minchey the slight edge entering the final two scrimmages. His mobility could prove to be an advantage when Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock make a final decision.
