The tornado that ripped across parts of north Harris County Monday night may have surprised residents—but meteorologists say storms like this are a known feature of Southeast Texas' "secondary" severe weather season.

Severe weather swept through southeast Texas on Monday, Nov. 24, and video shows a massive tornado with a funnel cloud that touched down. It was captured across Texas State Highway 249 in the afternoon amid a tornado watch warning throughout several counties, according to Storyful. Footage shows the murky twister rotating, leaving onlookers in awe.

Some northwest Harris County neighborhoods affected by Monday's storm may see an increased law enforcement presence during cleanup efforts.

A video shared by Ellis captured the moment—just before 1:45 p.m.—when one of her sons, Austin, whom she described as "the weather guy" for his fascination with meteorology, saw the tornado picking up speed and rushed to warn the family.

A FOX 26 Storm Alert is in effect for tonight and very early Tuesday. A tornado watch is in effect for several counties until Tuesday morning.
