A partisan vote from the Illinois State Board of Elections means the Oak Park Democrat's political committee won't be hit with a massive fine for allegedly accepting donations beyond campaign financing law.

Illinois partisan politics formally undermined a staff finding that state Senate President Don Harmon’s political fund violated campaign contribution limits last year.

Staff at the elections board fined Don Harmon’s campaign $9.8 million earlier this year following a Chicago Tribune report that it improperly accepted $4 million more than was allowed during the 2024 election.

Next year, Illinoisans will go to the polls to vote on several key federal, state, and local elected positions in the 2026 midterm elections.
