As California continues to battle devastating wildfires, the Kentucky Division of Forestry is reminding residents of the importance of wildfire preparedness.

Bobby Harrison worked at WYMT from 2006 to 2008. He later became a pastor and moved to California. He said he and his family evacuated their home after seeing fire.

Some Kentuckians may be heading to California after offering to help with the wildfires. Gov. Andy Beshear said on Thursday that California put out a call for help, and the Kentucky Division of Forestry answered.

Stay indoors and limit outdoor activities. An N95 mask can be worn. A cloth mask will not protect against from smoke. A “clean air room” can be created to reduce smoke exposure while inside by using a portable air cleaner or a “DIY air cleaner” made with a box fan and a filter.
