For President Donald Trump's administration, the numbers on executive orders, deportations, reductions in the federal workforce and tariffs in his first 100 days back in the White House point toward a renewed America.

President Donald Trump completes the first 100 days of his return to the White House on April 29, 2025, and the period has been marked by a whirlwind of activity that has remade vast swathes of American life and international relations.

The administration later walked back its initial proposal, and announced April 9 it would immediately hike tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%, but scale back reciprocal tariffs on other countries for 90 days to a baseline of 10%. In response, China proceeded to boost its tariffs on U.S. goods to 125%.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Sunday did not back President Donald Trump's assertion that tariff talks with China were under way and said he did not know if the U.S. president had talked to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

President Donald Trump’s tariff onslaught has roiled Washington and Wall Street for nearly a month. If the trade war persists, the next upheaval will hit much closer to home.
