Say what you will about the Club World Cup (and there is so, so much to say), but the format, inflated as it may be at 32 teams, does offer a truer sample size of how different confederations stack up against each other than the eight-team format did.

Palmeiras and Porto played out a 0-0 draw in their Group A opener of the Club World Cup at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday, with Porto’s stand-in goalkeeper Claudio Ramos delivering a stellar performance to frustrate the Brazilian side.

In just the 2nd minute, Porto almost caught Palmeiras cold with ball over the top, Fabio Vieira finding Joao Mario, who was denied by goalkeeper Weverton. At the other end, Vitor Roque’s indecision cost him an opportunity moments later, before Palmeiras wonderkid Estevao missed the target when well-placed on his left foot.
