Hurricane Erin weakened to a Category 3 hurricane overnight, but still remains a formidable major hurricane. Erin had max winds of 125 mph, the National Hurricane Center said in a 5 a.m. ET update. The next update is expected at 8 a.m. ET.

Hurricane Erin weakened slightly Saturday night but is still a formidable Category 4 storm north of Puerto Rico. The 11 pm advisory from the National Hurricane Center now has Erin with winds of 140 mph,

Hurricane Erin formed in the Atlantic Aug. 15 and rapidly strengthened to a catastrophic Category 5 storm with 160 mph winds on Saturday, Aug. 16, according to the National Hurricane Center. Erin is the first hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season.
