ROME (AP) — Pope Francis’ complex respiratory infection isn’t life-threatening, but he’s not out of danger, his medical team said Friday, as the 88-year-old pontiff marked his first week in the hospital battling pneumonia in both lungs along with a bacterial, viral and fungal infection.

The pope is not a quitter,” the Holy Father’s physician told journalists toward the end of a Friday press conference at Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

Doctors attending Pope Francis sought to reassure the world’s nearly 1.4 billion Catholics on Friday that “the pope is fine” and “working,” while at the same time warning that the pontiff would probably remain hospitalized for at least another week and remained in significant danger as he fights off double pneumonia.
