The Legislature approved the remaining pieces of the next state budget overnight Tuesday during a special session that lasted less than a day, after lawmakers failed to complete their work in May.

Lawmakers had a tied House and one-vote margin in the Senate. It took weeks of negotiations after the regular session adjourned for legislative leaders to get members to fall in line.

The Minnesota Legislature passed the final bills comprising the state’s two-year, $66 billion budget — an 8% decrease from two years ago.
