Michigan is bracing for another round of lake-effect snow this weekend, with snowfall expected to accumulate in spots across the Upper and Lower Peninsulas.
We are going into a steady cold spell for the next two weeks at least. This comes at the time of year when it’s easiest to have the coldest temperatures of winter. This means we will get some below-zero temperatures early next week. Watch the video to get the full idea of our weather scene over the next week.
Usually by late summer, the water heats up enough that it’s no longer cooler by the lake. Then, in the fall and early winter, the effect reverses: It takes the water longer than the air and land to cool down, making it warmer by the lake.
Heavy lake-effect snow and strong winds are expected to persist into Thursday, Jan. 15.
The webcams are live year-round at Big Sable Point Lighthouse near Ludington and White River Light Station near Whitehall, keeping fans connected even when the lights are closed.
