Cameras inside the Men's Central Jail were shut off for maintenance when inmates stabbed one deputy in the head and attacked others on Sunday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials and sources inside the agency.

A deputy suffered a puncture-type injury and was taken, along with three others, to a hospital where they were treated and released, officials said.

A former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department custody assistant pleaded no contest to committing sex crimes against an inmate in a Lancaster jail cell in 2019. The district attorney announced the plea Friday and said that prosecutors will push for a maximum eight-year sentencing for the alleged attack.
