Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), criticized the Justice Department probe of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Monday, accusing President Trump of a widespread effort to challenge the Fed’s independence.
The DOJ subpoenaed the Fed Reserve concerning allegations that Powell lied regarding the scope of expensive Fed reservations.
“I stand with Jerome Powell and an independent Fed,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) wrote Sunday on X. “Threatening criminal action against a Fed Chair because he refuses to do the President’s bidding on interest rates undermines the rule of law which is the very foundation for American prosperity.”
The subpoenas threatened a criminal indictment related to Jerome Powell's testimony before the Senate Banking Committee in June 2025, according to the Fed chair.
