West Nile Virus was identified in a mosquito collected in Middleboro, town officials said Wednesday. Symptoms of the virus tend to include fever and flu-like illnesses. The virus has a more significant effect on people over the age of 50, according to health officials.

A mosquito trap has tested positive for West Nile Virus in Williamson County. County officials say this marks the first positive trap of the 2025 season. So far this year there has also been one human case in the county reported of the virus.

State DPH has notified local health officials that West Nile virus was recently found in a mosquito sample of a primarily bird-biting mosquito.
