With just one PGA Tour win to his name, J.J. Spaun was on no one’s list of favourites for the 125th US Open but he managed the brutal Oakmost course well to emerge as the surprise leader while the big names were made to struggle.
It could be a long day for several golfers competing in the U.S. Open on Saturday after the second round did not finish on Friday due to weather. Thirteen players did not complete their second round after heavy rainfall and lightning in the area forced event officials to suspend play.
Sam Burns did what many people would deem impossible on Friday at the 2025 US Open. Burns claimed the 36-hole lead at Oakmont Country Club with a five-under 65, the best round of the tournament through two rounds. Burns holds a one-shot lead over 18-hole leader JJ Spaun, who dropped two shots after his opening-round 66.
