Officials for the Madrid Open cancelled Monday's play amid a blackout in Spain that impacted the tournament's facilities. The blackout caused a number of logistical problems at Caja Mágica with the scoreboards going dark and the loss of lighting to help fans navigate the venue:

Play was suspended at the Madrid Open the afternoon of April 28 before being canceled for the day and night, due to a power outage across Spain and the Iberian Peninsula. The loss of power meant that the electronic line calling (ELC) system used to judge whether a shot has landed in or out did not work,

PM local time (1034 GMT), stopping two ATP singles matches and one doubles match that were underway. In total, 22 matches had to be cancelled for the day. The organisers later updated that play will resume on Tuesday as the power was restored in Madrid.
