The new head of Britain's MI6 will be a woman for the first time in the more than 100-year history of the country's secret intelligence service, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced.
The 47-old-year began her career with MI6 in 1999. She currently serves as the Director General of its technology and innovation division.
Now, real life is catching up with fiction. In a statement late Sunday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that Blaise Metreweli — the first-ever female MI6 chief — will assume her new role in the autumn, succeeding Richard Moore, who is retiring.
Currently, she is MI6’s head of technology and innovation and known as ‘Q’. In her new role as chief, she will be referred to as ‘C’.
Blaise Metreweli, the first woman to head Britain's MI6 spy service, is a self-confessed "geek" whose appointment comes as the intelligence world faces growing challenges from cyber plots and AI.
