Eight minutes into Crystal Palace's 3-1 victory over Millwall in the FA Cup round of 16, striker Jean-Philippe Mateta had to be withdrawn from the match and eventually taken to the hospital following a reckless challenge from Millwall keeper Liam Roberts.

Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts charged off his line and kicked Mateta in the face in his attempt to clear the ball, with Michael Oliver showing him a red card after a VAR review. Palace chairman Steve Parish described it as “the most reckless challenge” he had ever seen as he confirmed that Mateta had been taken to hospital.
