Houston's weekend weather will be touching on plenty of outdoor activities, from planned political protests across Southeast Texas on Saturday to backyard celebrations with Dad for Father's Day on Sunday.

Houston prepares for a weekend of protests as Governor Abbott deploys National Guard statewide. HOUSTON — As unrest continues in other parts of the country, local and state leaders in Texas are preparing for what is expected to be a busy weekend of protests.

The protests in Texas followed days of unrest in Los Angeles, where President Donald Trump sent National Guard troops in response to demonstrations.

Organizers with Houston's chapter of the 50501 Movement, a national political organization opposed to Trump, said they are calling for a peaceful protest, which is set to begin at 10 a.m. at City Hall. The demonstration is expected to attract several thousand people, said Kristi Pham, of 50501 Houston.

A series of demonstrations, in opposition to President Donald Trump and his policies, are planned for Saturday in Houston and several surrounding cities.

People in San Antonio planned a demonstration on Saturday to condemn President Trump’s military parade in Washington D.C., which is meant in part to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The “No-Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance” protest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Travis Park.

After Gov. Greg Abbott ordered the deployment of more than 5,000 Texas National Guard troops across the state ahead of mass, anti-Trump protests, internal memos obtained by the American-Statesman reveal military leaders are scrambling to find and train enough personnel for the mission.

Half a dozen protests are planned in Houston for Saturday, June 14 by the No Kings movement, according to their website.
