Pope Francis is currently in the hospital as he battles bronchitis and undergoes “necessary tests” and treatments for the condition. The Holy See Press Office announced the 88-year-old’s condition on Friday following the pope’s morning audiences.

Pope Francis is being treated for a respiratory tract infection at a Rome hospital after fighting a bout of bronchitis for several days, the Holy See’s press office said in a statement.

Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Friday to undergo testing and treatment for bronchitis, the Vatican said. The 88-year-old pope was hospitalized in the late morning on Feb. 14 following meetings with a number of people, including the prime minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico.
