Whooping cough cases are on the rise at the University of Cincinnati as health officials try to keep up with students who may have recently been exposed to it.

The Iredell County Health Department is warning about the increase in whooping cough cases. Whooping cough, or pertussis, is a highly contagious respiratory infection. The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported a sharp rise in pertussis (whooping cough) cases in 2024, with the number of cases so far this year nearly tripling compared to the same period in 2023.
