There is an air quality alert for all of Southeast Michigan until midnight Saturday, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy reported. Pollutants across the state are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG, Orange AQI) range Wednesday and Thursday, with some locations reaching the Unhealthy (Red AQI) range.

An upper-level ridge of high pressure will control the forecast all the way through the end of the week, but as a suddenly flow starts to move in by the time we get to Friday and looking ahead into the upcoming weekend, we will dial-in more summer heat, and more humidity into the forecast.

Extreme heat warnings are remaining in place for parts of southeast California, southern Nevada and much of Arizona where high temperatures between 108 and 118 degrees are possible through Friday. Record high temperatures are also possible for cities like Phoenix and Tucson through Thursday, including Albuquerque through Friday.
