Residents of remote homes were told to evacuate as a new wildfire moved fast about 60 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. Here's the latest.

The King Fire ignited around 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles on Thursday morning and quickly grew to nearly 500 acres.

VIIRS/MODIS satellite hotspot data is updated daily in the morning with the red dots indicating which direction the fire is moving. The color of the dots shows how recent the data is (red is today, orange yesterday, yellow two days old). Perimeter data is updated by Cal Fire twice daily.
