The right of transgender minors to access gender-affirming care has sparked debate in many parts of the United States, and it’s now heading to the US Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court was unlikely to strike down a state ban on some pediatric medical treatments, but the Biden Justice Department’s strategy made it even more improbable.

The court split 6-3 along ideological lines on a case from Tennessee. About two dozen states have similar bans in place.
